End of the road…

September 19, 2006 3:43 pm

I don’t remember how I found out that Alex Kapranos (the lead singer of the band Franz Ferdinand) was writing semi-regular entries about food/etc while on his latest tour. But, once I started reading them, I enjoyed his style, the content, and his thoughts. Too bad that the tour (and the writing) have come to an end. I shall look forward to the book (and the next album…)

Genetic Journey

April 13, 2005 2:40 pm

This is one of the coolest/scariest things I’ve ever heard of. Sure, we all see CSI where they swab the inside of a suspect’s mouth to validate involvement in a crime. But to use that for genetic tracking to the beginning of mankind’s departure from Africa - CRAZY!

I think I have an added interest in this, given that my genetic background is a bit murky (being adopted and all). $100 is a small price to pay to learn about where you came from…that is, if you care. :)

Seattle Quake Scenario

February 22, 2005 12:00 pm

Seattle Quake Scenario could kill 1600

Yikes, that’s some scary stuff in there. As if we didn’t have enough to worry about, what with a HUGE dormant volcano in our backyard, and a port that could easily be used for some nasty terrorism-type activities.

I want my mommy…

The Two Washingtons

February 18, 2005 3:32 pm

Yes, I know, we already have two Washingtons (DC and WA), but now, from the Puget Sound Business Journal, we have a story about actually splitting Washington STATE into 2 separate states.

There has long been an defacto split between Eastern Washington (agricultural) and Western Washington (high tech), but this is the first that I’ve heard about actually splitting a state in two. Is this guy serious?

We Are All The Same

December 2, 2004 12:15 pm

I heard this story NPR : One Boy’s Heroism in the Face of AIDS on NPR last evening. During the story, Jim Wooten described an interview he had with Nkosi, in which Nkosi offered his mantra:

“Do all you can
with what you have
in the time you have
in the place you are.”

It brings me chills. Read the story.

Lunatic/Non-Lunatic

I found this today - good essay on where this country is right now. We are way too divided, and I’m not sure if it can come back together…

Also, here’s a bit of a reverse-take on our feelings right now. It’s sort of WWJD, but like WWADRD?

Perhaps we should try this idea?

Finally, here’s a picture of how some Canadians look at our continent:

Soros Speaks

Worth reading - Soros is a smart man, and his comments about W’s inability to move in multi-dimensions are right on.

One-Fingered Victory Salute

I won’t be sorry to see this guy go — thing is, there’s been no victory.
