So, after only 3.5 months waiting for my old POTS number to get ported over to Vonage, I finally installed the “Cisco ATA 186 Analog Telephone Adaptor” tonight, and (lo and behold) I have a dialtone! Pretty impressive, this consumer-oriented VoIP solution.

I especially like the online access to account features, activities, settings, and voicemail. I’m looking forward to hassle-free telephoning from here on (knock on wood).

And, to answer the question that I know you all have (”Why do you need a landline phone at all? You and Anne both have mobile phones.”), the answer is coverage/reception. Neither T-Mobile or Cingular do a good job of coverage at our house, so that I need to step out on the front porch to get a decent signal. So, hence the need for the wired solution. One day…
