Mesh Networks

A Fine Mesh

Meshes could be the future of wireless… if anyone could make them work in a real-world deployment. Fortunately, there signs that mesh networking is finally set to achieve its potential.

And now for something completely different…

RFID is fast becoming my breeding ground for new ideas. This story is an example of how quickly this field is moving.

Internet Radio

March 15, 2004 3:17 pm

I love it. I listen to it. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like my local radio stations in Seattle (KMTT, KNDD, KROQ, KZOK, etc.) but when I’m at work, I need to listen to something, and Internet radio is the way to go.

I’ll be listening to one of these stations (enjoy!)

New Mariners Commercials

12:57 pm

WooHoo — the 2004 M’s season is upon us, and that means….NEW COMMERCIALS!

Check them out here. Not sure I like ‘em as much as last season, but that doesn’t mean diddly. Come to think of it, commericals in general don’t mean diddly if we don’t MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!

(sorry, just venting there. Good luck guys!)

Telephone Tragedy

March 12, 2004 11:38 am

So, I lost my mobile the other day. Turns out it dropped out my (supposedly zipped shut) jacket pocket while doing some snowboarding at Alpental. Surprisingly enough, the phone was found (on the slopes) the next day!

According to Central Guest Services, the phone was pretty mangled, cracked screen, wouldn’t turn on, etc. They were, however, kind enough to pull out the SIM card and mail it back to me (thanks Meghan!) At least this way I’ll get my phone numbers back…

So, now a new phone is necessary. My contract with TMO was up a month or so ago, so I looked at all my options. Port to another carrier, keep TMO, stay on a solo plan or go onto a family plan with Anne, choices choices. In the end, I chose to stay with TMO (path of least hassle), but wanted to get in on one of the fantastic deals that Amazon.com was running. I really had wanted to stay with my old Sony-Ericsson T300 for a while until there was a really cool phone I could get, but now it looks like I will go to a T610 for at least a year. Not bad, but not great. I’ll let you know if the scary reports of sub-par reception and firmware freeze-ups pan out…

Man Grooming

11:23 am

Not sure that I can make this type of investment (time, products, effort, etc.) but hey, it is my face after all, and I sure want to keep it looking good (yes, “good” is a relative term)…

Unsolicited Advice for the New Father

Enjoy a little unsolicited advice for the new father

And this is a great link to the counterpart of the above blog — Dooce’s thoughts on unsolicited advice for soon-to-be parents

Great stuff — for parents, soon-to-be parents, or people who don’t want anything the f^%! to do with parenting… :)

Gnod

March 10, 2004 9:46 am

Hour of entertainment, learning about what other people like in relation to the stuff you like (movies, music, books). Still trying to figure out how it’s doing it — most likely a web-services based hookup to Amazon (so, basically, a pretty way of showing Amazon.com’s “People who bought this also bought…” stuff.

Still, it’s cool.

Who Cares What the French Think?

March 1, 2004 10:58 am

Well, I don’t (usually). But I do care what kids think, since they have this tendency to grow into adults and shape our future. And this article from the Seattle P-I shows that we (America) are not doing too well in the opinions of French kids…

Seattle is closer to France than to Texas
